At the high school level, ConneXions students are being prepared to succeed far beyond their short time at ConneXions. It is increasingly important that students are exposed to the skills and content necessary to make them competitive college students and employers. Academic and arts classes encourage students to be creative, thoughtful and independent thinkers who are willing to play and active and positive role in our communities.
Academic classes include English, Foreign Language (Spanish and French), Social Studies, Science, and Mathematics classes. Each of these courses are aligned to the Core Learning Goals provided by the Maryland State Department of Education and emphasize critical reading and writings skills as our school moves to adopt practices aligned with the Common Core State Standards Initiative. ConneXions currently offers an Advanced Placement course and is hopeful to offer more AP courses in the future. Credits for academic classes are awarded on the basis of successful portfolio exhibitions, in which students present and defend examples of this intellectual work in each subject area. Much focus is given to preparing students for high stakes exams, such as the Maryland High School Assessments (HSA) and Standardized Achievement Test (SAT). Students are also provided with information to explore options beyond high school such as college entrance requirements. For more information, contact our guidance counselor, Ms. Pamela Watkins. |
